- Zurich has one of the best public transit systems in Europe. It’s extremely dense in the city centre but also allows easy access to peripheral areas.
- For short distance travel in the city centre, trams are your best option. For longer journeys, buses and S-Bahn should suffice. A central zone ticket costs 8.60 CHF and can be bought from the ticket vending machines at Zurich HB. Fare details here.
- As mentioned in the city guide, a day ticket is quite expensive but lets you see more of the city. The central core is very walkable as it takes 20 minutes to go from the central station to Lake Zurich.

This stretch from the Zurich central train station to Lake Zurich covers the core of the old town. It’s about a 20 min walk end to end. Tram 11 is the alternative way of traversing this. Lindenhof Gardens provides a nice view of Zurich.

This walk is pretty much parallel to Bahnhofstrasse but on the other side of the Limmat. Trams 4 and 15 traverse this stretch. Grossmunster is a must-visit. The central library isn’t as impressive as other cities but not too shabby either.

On a clear day, provides a fantastic viewpoint to see the city and the lake. Easily reachable by taking the S10 S-bahn from Zurich HB. The fare zone for Uetliberg station is 155 (not included in central Zurich ticket).

The zoo is the top family attraction in Zurich. It is in fare zone 10 so included in the central Zurich day pass. Tram 6 from Zurich HB takes you to the zoo’s doorstep.
