As mentioned in a previous blogpost, we had herladed Edradour Distillery as one of the best tours in Scotland. However it’s best feature, it’s tasting bar, got even better for me with a trip yesterday. They offer their own expressions from £2.50 per dram upto £15 for 20+ years varieties. What I didn’t realise is that their menu had an entire back side!
The water of life
Turns out that Edradour has bought a number of casks from other distilleries that they bottle & sell under the Signatory Vintage label. The back of the menu contained 50+ whiskies from that rich selection that spanned across the Speyside, Islay & Highland regions. The bartender also was really good at making recommendations based on your taste.
1981 Glenlivet
I personally had a 1981 Glenlivet (silky smooth), a 11 year old Ballechin (Edradour’s heavily peated expressions), an almost dessert whisky (forgot the distillery name) & ended with a 37 year old North Ayrshire. The price of all these combined was less than £30, a bargain by any standards (my memory is hazy and my wallet was open but the prices were actually unbelievably low, no more than £50 combined IIRC). The tour is pretty good too, it was fun even though it was my 2nd time seeing it. The small, handcrafted nature of whisky making here does make it charming.

Getting here: Take a ScotRail train to Pitlochry. The distillery is a 10 min taxi ride from the village centre (£7) or a 50 min uphill walk. Open Mid-March to Mid-October 6 days a week.
